My name is Nicola Williams, also known as 'fun coach Nicky'. I have recently just graduated from University of Portsmouth with Bsc Psychology degree.
As many of you know, I am one of Cobham's senior coaches and have been with the club since day one – literally! I attended the first ever taster session as a player at the age of 13 and this is where my lacrosse career began. Before that moment, I had no idea of what lacrosse even was as I attended a local state school that did not play lacrosse. After a year of playing lacrosse with the club and grabbing a lacrosse stick whenever I could, I managed to get onto the Surrey reserves. At this point, I was told that I was the first girl from a state school to obtain a place within the Surrey team. From then I put forward a request to the local council to award the club with a grant. This request was accepted which meant the club could now fund to go into state schools and find more girls like me who wanted to play! (Fantastic!!).
By the time I was 15, I was a fully qualified coach and began to coach for Cobham. I have played for several different ladies teams throughout my lacrosse career, some being; Putney, Cobham and University of Portsmouth. Overall I have been coaching for around 6 years, and many more years to come! I have loved every minute of being part of the club and it is overwhelming to see how much this club has truly grown. I look forward to seeing how much bigger we can become.
