Welcome to Cobham Lacrosse Club

U13 Match Report Dec 7

The Cobham Under 13s had a great last game of the term against W4. The girls posed a triumphant 11-5 victory over one of their biggest rivals. With every game there is marked improvement in defensive recognition and urgency, smooth transitions into the attacking end, and settled attack. On Sunday the Cobham girls showed they were able to score goals in multiple ways, from fast-break transition goals, to beautiful feeds from behind they demonstrated an improving understanding of lacrosse.

Again, there were multiple goal scorers and over half of the goals were assisted which was great to see! Pheobe led the team with four goals, followed by Sophie who tallied three, Charlotte with two, and Scarlett and Lara each scoring one goal apiece. Overall the attack looked composed and confident, the girls moved the ball well, and saw great open lanes to net. All of our shots were powerful, and most were accurately shot at the low corners.

Defensively, the girls were merciless holding a skilled W4 team to only 5 goals! Sanai continued to shine with her fearless 1 v. 1 defense and came up with upwards of four ground balls! The voice of the defense was Georgia who had some incredible transition plays and showed tons of confidence carrying the ball up the field. Tizzie played lockdown defense the entire game, completely denying her girl from touching the ball. B played a nice defensive game and was always first to crash to the ball if a W4 player started to challenge to net. Dillon held down the fort in the net and saved three shots; she also had some beautiful clears up the field.

As a whole, the attackers and midfielders did an amazing job marking up in the ride (while the W4 goalie was trying to clear it) and made it challenging for the W4s to transition the ball up field. Fraya, Charlotte, and Claudia each had a couple of caused turnovers because of their commitment to the ride. These attackers ensured the ball did not get to our defensive end often and gave the attack multiple scoring opportunities. On attack, Sophie was instrumental in slowing it down and working to find good looks on cage.

As a whole, Cobham dominated the hustle stats. Pheobe and Izzy worked particularly well together getting the draw controls. Eniola was all over the field coming up with ground balls, draw controls, and really pushing the pace of the game. Despite head injuries she and Sinai sustained over the course of the game, they both continued to battle on the field and showed everyone how tough they are! The W4 team borrowed a couple Cobham superstars including Radika, Emily, and Kierra. Despite the incredible hustle and attacking power of these three, the Cobham team was still able to come out with the win! Kierra was responsible for multiple goals against her own team, while Radika and Emily dominated the midfield coming up with ground balls and draw controls and running the ball in transition.

A great game to end on before Christmas break. Looking forward to a fantastic 2015 season with the Cobham U13s!
