A core part of our lacrosse development ethos is to help our members gain coaching and umpiring qualifications. Not only are they great CV building opportunities, but we pay market leading rates to those who go on to work for the club. Girls can start working on their qualifications from Year 10 upwards, much of which can now be done online. If you are already Level 1 qualified and would like to progress to Level 2, or would like further information/advice, please contact Helen Devine.
This course is undertaken in two parts. The first is an online course in coaching theory, which comes in a home study pack available through the English Lacrosse Association ("ELA") website. It takes approximately four to five hours to complete and can be done over a period of time by logging in/out of the online module once registered. This is followed by an assessment day, during which three pre-prepared coaching lesson plans will be assessed/discussed.
Our next assessment day is on Saturday 16th December 2017. Follow the link below and choose the Cobham venue. We have agreed with the ELA that girls from Year 10 upwards may attend the assessment day and receive their certificate upon reaching 16. The course costs £95 for ELA registered players.
The ELA have recently changed the way umpires become qualified, to make it easier for young people to get on the umpiring ladder. To qualify as a Level 1 umpire the course is all online, again via the ELA website. The course takes approximately two to three hours to complete and, as with coaching, can be completed in several sittings. There is no requirement for an assessment day or further sign off. We have agreed with the ELA that girls from Year 10 upwards may register for the course and qualify on completion. The course costs £55 for ELA registered players. You may find it helpful to have a hard copy of the Official Rule Book to hand that you can order here.
