I hope you are all enjoying the summer break
I'm afraid however that I have to bring you some concerning news in respect of our planned coaching programme for this coming season.
This Monday, we were informed by the English Lacrosse Association of concerns the UK Border agency had raised with respect to its LDO and SCO coachng programme. These concerns, if not resolved, will have an impact on our planned coaching programme for the coming season. The ELA have been given 20 days to respond to the Border Agency's concerns and have engaged lawyers accordingly to help them in their response.
The ELA's LDO and SCO programme has been running since 1982 and has been A rated by the Home Office since inception. It has sponsored over 1250 Non-EU coaches in that period who have encouraged over 1 million young lacrosse players to pick up a stick.
Cobham Lacrosse Club has benefited enormously from this programme having had numerous great US coaches working with us and in local schools over the last 8 years. Their involvement has been a key driver in our development as a club and in promoting the sport more widely in the local community to children of all ages. This year, given the growth of the club and demand within Elmbridge schools, we had as you know planned to take on two new LDOS for the coming season.. Ashley and Kate were due to arrive in the UK at the end of August and I was really looking forward to welcoming them to the club.
Unfortunately at this stage whatever the outcome of the appeal by the ELA it seems highly unlikely that Ashley and Kate will be able to join us in September and we have been advised by the ELA to plan at best case to start the season without them and at worst case not at all.
As a result since we were advised of the situation on Monday Jan, Penny, Sam, Katie and myself have had a number of calls between us and with the ELA and we are working hard on a number of options to ensure we can provide the appropriate coaching resource in time for the coming season across all age groups. At this stage however we cannot give any firm guarantees of the make up of the coaching programme but will aim to give you an update as soon as we can and certainly before the end of August.
I'm sure you may have questions as a result of this mail but I would ask you to be patient and hopefully we will have some positive news in the coming weeks.
In the meantime I would urge you to take a look at the ELA website and support the campaign that has been started by the ELA to save the programme.
