Well the summer is nearly over and the new Lacrosse season is upon us. I look forward to seeing all those girls who are returning to us and wish a very warm welcome to our new members.
Nell our new coach arrives in the UK this week and I know is really looking forward to getting going and meeting you all over the coming weeks.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a few things about the coming season and remind you of a few important rules I would ask all of you to take note of.
1. First training session 13th September 2014-1.45 Drop Off Main Club House
The first training session starts on Saturday 13th September. As last year we ask that all girls are dropped off at main club-house by 1.45 ready to walk across to the grounds with the coaches. There will be road crossing marshalls between 1.45 and 1.55 to ensure the girls cross the road safely. If you are late then you must park at Munro House and walk your daughter across and not be tempted to drop off at the grounds. (See below).
We will also be holding a Parents Meet and Greet at this first session scheduled for 2.45. This is an opportunity for us to explain our approach to training and matches and to answer any of your questions. It is also an opportunity for you to meet my fellow Committee members and our new LDO, Nell.
2. Drop Off and Collection – Munro House
For those that were with us last year and for all those new members, I would remind you that when dropping off or parking you must do so at Munro House and NOT drive into or park at the Fairmile pub. The terms of the lease arrangement forbids this and is closely monitored by the Pub management and the CSA. Last year, the majority of you abided by this but we did have a few that, despite persistent reminders, felt that they could ignore this. If we find persistent offenders we will have no option but to cancel your daughter’s membership. If you are going to stay and have a drink at the Fairmile while the girls are playing I would kindly ask you to still abide by the same rules. It makes it easier for all.
3. Mini Field Lacrosse-U11s (Ages 9 to 11)
After much debate and feedback from parents we have decided to replace the Pop Lacrosse with Mini-Field Lacrosse. The time will still be the same 2 to 3 and field sticks will be provided but as the ball is a proper lacrosse ball and not the softer Pop ball, girls will be required to wear a mouth guard. Girls in the US start Field Lax at a young age and we believe this change will help the younger girls develop their field skills earlier and prepare them well for when they move to year 7. If you have any questions/concerns over this change please free to e-mail me.
4. Zenith Junior League Fixtures-U13 & U15 and U12, U11 Friendlies
We have just finalised the fixtures for the U13 and U15. These are on the web-site. There are five teams in the league this year so there will be a total of 8 league matches over the season. For the U11s and U12s we will endeavour to find friendly fixtures throughout the season. All fixtures related information will be channelled through the respective co-ordinators who are:
Julie Langley U11s, Sabina Sherlock U12, Lisa Duncan U13 and Heidi Anderson U15
The first matches of the season will be on Sunday 14th September at the SE Junior Kick-Off Rally to be held at Caterham Lacrosse grounds. This is for age groups U12, U13 and U15 and is a friendly opening season warm up for the girls and game rules will be flexible on the day. It’s a fun event so if you can make it please do keep an eye out for the mail from your co-ordinator.
5. Dedicated Goal-Keeping Clinic with the England Goal Keeper- 28th September 10 to 2.
I’m delighted to announce that Sally Keogh, the England No. 1 goal keeper will be running a special goal-keeping clinic on the 28th September. The session will be divided into 2 two-hour sessions. The first two hours 10 to 12, is designed as an introduction and is primarily aimed at Yr. 7 and 8s who would like to give keeping a try for the first time or those who have already had a go and would like to develop their skills. The second two hour session-12 to 2 is more performance related and aimed at Yr. 9, 10 and 11s. Both sessions are free to members and if you are interested or want more information please email me.
6. Parents Try-Out and After Match Tea.
We will as in previous years be organising a parents try-out for all those who want to give the game a go. This is a popular session and great fun for all. Please keep an eye out for information on this event. Afterwards we will be having an after match tea which will give a chance for the girls and parents to socialise and ask any questions to the Committee members. Please keep any eye on the web-site.
7. New Web-Site
And finally, a quick plug for our new web-site. We hope you have already visited the new site but if not I would urge you do so. www.cobhamlacrosse.co.uk. I think you will find that it is a big improvement on the old site and contains all the information you should need about the club, fixtures, and updates on events. Please add it to your favourites.
That’s about it for now. I and the rest of the Committee look forward to seeing you all in September.
