Copy of email from Robert Sherlock, Chairman to All Members, 22 October 2015
For those already on half term, I hope that you are enjoying the break from the school run.
As we reach the mid-point of the Autumn term, I wanted to give you a quick update on the coaching situation at Cobham and the Committee’s decision with regard to membership.
US LDO Visa Programme
There has still been no news out of the Government with respect to the review of the ELA’s Overseas Coaches Visa Sponsorship programme. All we have been told is that due to the complexities of the case it has been referred up to the Immigration Minister, Mr James Brokenshire MP. However given other pressing immigration issues, I suspect that it is not at the top of his list of priorities and so we are still in limbo on this, as are many schools, clubs and universities.
New Senior Coach - Torz Anderson
As a result of this continued impasse, the Committee did a bit of brainstorming the other week to see what additional avenues we could explore to add to the existing coaching line up. As a result, I am delighted to announce that this week we have secured the services of a new Senior Coach, Torz Anderson. Torz will join us from 7 November.
Some of your daughters may know Torz if they have attended a Six by Six Coaching camp or one of the England U15 or U17 Regional or National training centres, where she has been coaching for over 5 years.
Torz has been a member of the Senior England squad for 6 years and was part of the team who won the European Championships in the Czech Republic, earlier this year. She also played in the U19 World Championships in 2011 and was selected as U19 captain for season following this. She is now training towards the World Cup in 2017 as part of the England Women’s Performance Squad.
I am sure you will join the Committee and Coaches in welcoming Torz to the club.
Further, not resting on our laurels, we have also been discussing with some of the school based US coaches we know to see how they can come and help support our Saturday training sessions. While they cannot commit every week due to school commitments, we hope to be able to get them to come down as and when they can.
The Committee remains committed to provide high quality coaching in an all-inclusive environment. We monitor the coach/member attendance ratio on a weekly basis to ensure ratios are not stretched and players are receiving the appropriate level of attention. Therefore despite securing Torz as mentioned above and the additional support Nicky, Kate and Sophie receive from our U16-U18+ Level 1 trained girls, plus DoE volunteers, we have decided to keep the membership closed until Christmas, at which point we will review the situation. We continue to maintain a waiting list for the U12, U13, U14 and U15 year groups and will contact those on this list at the end of the term to advise if the situation changes.
