On Saturday 15 December we held our Festive Training for our Minis, U12 and U13s. Despite the wind and rain - maybe because of the hot chocolate and cookies? - the girls had a great time. Our training finished with this group of players joining our older girls to hear Laura Merrifield ( 2017 Captain, England Senior Women's Lacrosse) deliver an inspirational talk on 'getting to the top'. Laura, Katy Bennett and Nancy Day had just delivered a Six by Six Masterclass for our older girls.
Laura brought along her World Cup Bronze medal and her lacrosse 'All-World team' cap, and the girls were soon queuing up to have photos taken with her. It was truly fabulous for the girls to be able to chat with Laura, England 2013 captain Katy and Nancy ( current England Senior Women) and find out how their lacrosse careers had started! It was really good to see the younger players listening so intently to what Laura and the other coaches had to say, and making the connection that great lacrosse players do start young. And it's all about training hard and having fun doing it.
So, a great time was had by all at Festive Training.... thanks to all for coming. Many, many thanks to our parents, standing stoically in the rain - you are so important to the Club because of your support. Thanks to our amazing Cobham Coaches who were busy with training and especial thanks to Head Coach Nicky Williams for running a trim and tidy coaching team. And a shout-out to three former Cobham players, now junior England... Zoe, Lucy and Dylan were fund-raising in the rain for the U19 Women's Lacrosse World Cup by selling specially designed Ts and sweatshirts! And lastly, I'd like to say an ENORMOUS thank you to the Cobham Committee who planned and organised festive training, from cookies and chocolate to urns and trestle tables and the organisation of the whole day.
Happy Holidays!! Training starts again on 5th January.
