The Cobham Junior Tournament returned on May 15th after a three year absence due to the fallout from Covid19. We had a lovely 'Mini Fest' on Saturday 14th with our Minis playing friendlies against visitors and a well-fought friendly between our U15s and a very competitive set of visitors, Timperley Lacrosse. Onto to Sunday 15th.... with the Cobham Committee out in force getting the gazebos up and the gorgeous food vendors established safely in the grounds, we began to welcome players and family from around 9am. The starting hooter went on time at 10am and we were off! Cobham had two teams at both U13 and U15, we had W4 and New Stars at U13, and Timperley and New Stars at U15. After a tough set of matches, with expert umpiring and confident coaching ( and sadly, a dumping of rather chilly rain) the Champions at U13 emerged - New Stars - and the amazing travelling team Timperley pulled off the U15 win. The absolutely BEST bit of the day was the sight of smiling happy players applauding their rivals right across the board as the awards were made.
Parents and players left, the umpires left, our coaches helped with striking camp, lost property was logged in and only the stalwart Committee, two amazing volunteers ( who looked after the hooter and the parking) and our stellar Head Coach Schyler Neale were left. WHAT A DAY. It is amazing how good fun and great organisation makes for success. A big shout-out therefore to parents, players, coaches, umpires, and most of all the Committee who worked so hard to get our Tournament back on the pitches and 'on the circuit'. You are the best!
